ROLE OF MEDITATION IN EDUCATION

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”

                                                                                                           – Aristotle

The absolute purpose of education is the outright advancement of all students. The scientific exploration of the behavioral patterns, of divergent parts of the brain, has furthered the cause of meditation in schools. Step Up School firmly believes that, it is necessary to establish a cord between cognitive and emotional capabilities, for holistic growth of children. Meditation plays a significant role in inspiring the journey of mind from inner noise to inner knowing. School can be strenuous for both students and teachers. Few minutes of concentration or mindfulness revamps the cerebral, emotional, communal and physical well being of everyone.

Meditation in simple words means relief or relaxation and must not be confused with concentration. The aim is to become thoughtless and rejuvenate the mind, body and soul with more energy. With regular practice and routine, teachers witness many benefits of Meditation spanning from fitness and prosperity to academic performance in students of all age groups. Meditation encourages-

  • Boost Physical resilience
  • Improved IQ levels, analytical ability and general intelligence
  • Development of self esteem and confidence
  • Reduced academic stress
  • Enhanced scholastic results
  • Reinforcement of the mind-body connection
  • Establishment of focus and concentration

Divulging kids to various techniques of this traditional art will stimulate robust growth, thereby making them competent in handling stress in a better manner. Practicing meditation can often be difficult for small children, since they have low concentration levels. We suggest, action based meditation techniques like Yoga, as an attractive way, to introduce and attract children towards this unique art form. Some techniques of meditation, which can be of great help to children, can be-

Meditation is just like a seed, which will blossom if cultivated with love. Step up School have imbibed yoga and meditation in School assembly where our aim is to experience fun and ease at the same point. It not only helps students to learn in a better way but also helps in responding to positive and negative feedback. Thus, a few minutes of meditation in morning or during the school time can benefit both teachers and students with calmness of mind and physical health.
